How Lennox Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

• PureAir S air purification system - UV lamp burnout and ozone plate degradation. The S16 and S20 series use a 16-inch UV-C lamp rated for 9,000 hours, but Chicago’s hard water and mineral-heavy air shorten actual life to 6,500-7,500 hours in practice. We see this every March when homeowners fire up cooling and smell that hot-dust ozone hit. We replace with OEM Lennox lamps or Ushio aftermarket equivalents that meet the same 254nm spec, test output with a UV meter, and log the install date on your filter frame so we both know when it’s due.
• Healthy Climate HCW3 and HCW6 humidifiers - solenoid valve seizing and pad frame corrosion. These units run hard from October through April in Chicago, and the constant wet-dry cycle pits the aluminum distributor tray. The solenoid’s the weak point - it gums up with scale from Lake Michigan water chemistry. We clean or replace the valve, switch to a stainless distributor where the frame’s too far gone, and set the humidistat to 35% so you’re not overworking it on single-digit nights.
• Healthy Climate ERV and HRV units - core blockage and defrost sensor failure.
