Lennox Ductwork Repair Nationwide

Lennox Ductwork Repair: The Chicago Owner’s Guide

Lennox ductwork repair in Chicago typically runs $180-$450 installed, depending on whether we’re sealing a section, replacing a collapsed run, or reworking a return plenum. We stock Lennox-compatible galvanized fittings, flex duct, and mastic sealant on every truck, and most repairs are finished in a single visit. Same-day service is available across the city, including evenings and weekends.

Most Chicago homeowners figure out something’s wrong when the bedroom over the garage stays cold in January despite the furnace running nonstop, or when their summer electric bill jumps thirty percent because conditioned air is dumping into the attic through a split seam. Ductwork doesn’t break all at once. It loosens at joints, crushes where someone stored a box too heavy, or rusts through where a humidifier leaked for three winters straight.

Which Lennox Models This Applies To

Lennox doesn’t build the ductwork itself, but their systems are engineered for specific static pressure and airflow rates that standard duct sizing doesn’t always respect. We see this most with the SLP98V and EL296V variable-speed furnaces, which ramp airflow up and down so precisely that undersized or leaky return ducts trigger pressure faults. The ML180 and ML193 single-stage units are more forgiving, but they’ll still cook themselves if supply runs are blocked.

To identify what you’re working with, check the metal data plate on the furnace cabinet, usually on the left-hand side. The model number starts with the series code. If your home was built in the 1960s or 1970s with original galvanized trunk lines, those are often 6-inch round when Lennox specs call for 7-inch minimum on newer high-efficiency equipment. We’ve replaced dozens of those undersized runs in Bridgeport and Garfield Ridge alone.

We use OEM Lennox fittings where they mate directly to the cabinet, spec-grade galvanized for trunk replacements, and UL181-approved flex duct for attic runs. The aftermarket flex we carry meets the same pressure rating as Lennox-branded supply, at roughly half the markup. We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Lennox, so we source what works without pushing brand labels you don’t need.

Signs Your Lennox Ductwork Repair Is Failing

  • Uneven temperatures room to room. A bedroom that’s ten degrees colder than the living room usually means a disconnected flex run or a damper that’s slipped closed in the basement. We find this constantly in Chicago bungalows where the original duct was retrofit around a finished basement.
  • Dust blowing from registers right after the furnace kicks on. That’s air pulling through a return leak in an unfinished basement or crawl space, dragging fiberglass and concrete grit with it. Your filter is doing its job; the ductwork behind the wall is not.
  • Whistling or roaring at the register. High velocity through an undersized duct creates noise and wastes energy. Lennox variable-speed blowers will compensate for a while, then fault out when they can’t maintain set airflow.
  • Condensation or rust on ductwork in summer. Cold supply air hitting humid attic air through a gap in the insulation wrap. In Chicago’s July humidity, that moisture breeds mold in the fiberboard.
  • Heating bills climbing year over year with no equipment change. Leaky ducts can lose twenty to thirty percent of conditioned air before it reaches the room. The furnace runs longer, works harder, and dies sooner.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Ductwork repair pricing in Chicago breaks down by what we’re actually doing:

  • Seal and balance existing system: $180-$320
  • Replace collapsed or disconnected flex run (one zone): $220-$380
  • Rebuild return plenum or trunk section: $320-$450
  • Full duct modification for equipment upgrade: $450-$650+

The range depends on access, basement headroom, and whether we’re working around a finished ceiling. We quote upfront, before any work starts. The price quoted is the price paid. Every repair carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the seal fails or the joint loosens, we make it right with no paperwork and no arguing.

We also honor our standing $50 off any repair over $250, and our Senior and Veteran 5% discount applies to all ductwork work.

DIY or Call Us?

There’s a short list of things a homeowner can safely check. Make sure all registers are open and unobstructed. Verify the basement damper handles are where you think they are. Listen for obvious whistling while the blower runs.

Everything else belongs to someone with the right tools and the right training. Sheet metal edges will slice you open without warning. Attic work in a Chicago January is genuinely dangerous between the cold, the blown-in insulation hiding joist gaps, and the risk of putting a foot through a ceiling. More importantly, a sealed duct system needs to be pressure-tested. We run a Duct Blaster on every significant repair to verify we’re not leaving you with the same leak we found.
