If your furnace is a Dave Lennox Signature Collection unit with a variable-speed blower, you’ll need an iComfort-compatible control; a generic thermostat will either not work at all or will cripple the system’s efficiency by locking it in single-stage mode.

Here’s how to tell what you’ve got: pull the thermostat off the wall and look at the terminal labels. Traditional wiring shows R, W, Y, G, maybe C. iComfort wiring shows R, i+, i-, C, and sometimes a data designation. Signs Your Lennox Thermostat Is Failing

• Blank or dim display. The backlight works but digits fade, or the screen goes dark entirely while the system still runs. Usually means the 24-volt transformer or the control’s internal power supply is failing - common in Chicago after summer heat waves cook the electronics in upstairs hallways.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s what you can safely check yourself: confirm the furnace switch is on, the breaker hasn’t tripped, and the thermostat’s set to the right mode with fresh batteries if it’s battery-powered. Beyond that, low-voltage wiring is generally safe to the touch, but miswiring a modern control can fry a $600 furnace circuit board - we’ve replaced three this year after well-meaning homeowners swapped R and C. iComfort systems are especially unforgiving; the data bus doesn’t tolerate incorrect polarity.
