Lennox Air Quality & Ventilation in Chicago: What to Know First

Fireside Heating & Air Co. of Chicago provides independent Lennox air quality and ventilation service throughout the city, with most calls scheduled same-day or next-day. A typical humidifier repair runs $150-$350, a full ERV installation $2,800-$5,500, and we quote every job upfront - the price you hear is the price you pay. We’re not a Lennox dealer; we’re the company Chicago homeowners have called since 2018 when they want the work done right and backed in writing. If your PureAir system smells off, your Healthy Climate humidifier’s not keeping up with February dryness, or you’re tired of allergy season inside your own house, call us at (833) 983-1671. Tell me what it’s doing, and I’ll tell you what it needs.

How Lennox Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • PureAir S air purification system - UV lamp burnout and ozone plate degradation. The S16 and S20 series use a 16-inch UV-C lamp rated for 9,000 hours, but Chicago’s hard water and mineral-heavy air shorten actual life to 6,500-7,500 hours in practice. We see this every March when homeowners fire up cooling and smell that hot-dust ozone hit. We replace with OEM Lennox lamps or Ushio aftermarket equivalents that meet the same 254nm spec, test output with a UV meter, and log the install date on your filter frame so we both know when it’s due.
  • Healthy Climate HCW3 and HCW6 humidifiers - solenoid valve seizing and pad frame corrosion. These units run hard from October through April in Chicago, and the constant wet-dry cycle pits the aluminum distributor tray. The solenoid’s the weak point - it gums up with scale from Lake Michigan water chemistry. We clean or replace the valve, switch to a stainless distributor where the frame’s too far gone, and set the humidistat to 35% so you’re not overworking it on single-digit nights.
  • Healthy Climate ERV and HRV units - core blockage and defrost sensor failure. The ERVXXLHB and HRVXXLVU series pull Chicago’s pollen-heavy spring air and winter road salt dust, clogging the enthalpy core by year three in most homes. The defrost sensor, meanwhile, trips false shutdowns when ice builds on the intake hood. We pull the core for chemical cleaning (not replacement, if we can save it), verify cfm recovery rates with a manometer, and relocate intake hoods when the original install put them too close to dryer vents or alley draft zones.
  • Healthy Climate dehumidifiers (HCD2 and HCD3 series) - compressor short-cycling and drain line algae. These units fight Chicago’s summer basement humidity, but the HCD2’s particularly prone to short-cycling when the return duct’s undersized, which we see in 1960s ranch renovations all over Garfield Ridge and Clearing. The condensate pump line grows black algae from June through September. We size the return properly, install a cleanout tee in the drain, and treat with biocide tablets that won’t eat the PVC.
  • Legacy Lennox WB2 and WB3 power humidifiers - transformer failure and fan motor bearing wear. These older drum-style units still hang in bungalows from Portage Park to Beverly. The 24V transformer cooks itself after 15-20 years, and the evaporator pad drive motor seizes when the bearings dry out. We stock both parts, or we can quote a modern bypass humidifier if the cabinet’s rusted through. No point throwing good money at a unit that’s been dripping through your ductwork for three winters.

Why Chicago Homeowners Call Fireside Heating & Air Co. of Chicago for Lennox Work

We’ve been in Chicago since 2018. Terry Kowalski started this company after learning the trade at Olive-Harvey College, and we’ve stayed independent - not a franchise, not a dealer for any single brand. That matters when you own a Lennox system because we’re not pushing new equipment to hit a manufacturer’s quota. If your PureAir needs a $200 lamp, we’ll tell you. If the whole ERV’s cooked and you’re better off replacing, we’ll tell you that too.

Our techs train on nine major brands: Lennox, Carrier, Trane, Goodman, Rheem, York, Daikin, Bryant, and American Standard. They know the difference between a Healthy Climate HCW3 and an HCW6 without looking it up. The 90-Day Done Right Promise covers every job. And when you call at 2 a.m. because your humidifier’s leaking through the ceiling, a live person answers - always has, always will.
