This page is for Chicago homeowners who already own a Carrier heat pump, ductless mini split, or multi-zone system and need straight talk about what’s wrong, what it’ll cost, and who’s qualified to fix it. We’ve worked on Carrier equipment in this city for over 42 years, through lake-effect humidity and January cold snaps that test every component. If your Carrier system is running loud, blowing weak, or not running at all, call us at (833) 983-1671. A live person answers, day or night.

How Carrier Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

  • Infinity Series heat pump control board failures in shoulder seasons. The Infinity communicating control board can lose its handshake with the thermostat during rapid temperature swings, which Chicago sees plenty of in April and October. The board isn’t dead; it’s confused. We reflash or replace with OEM Carrier controls, never generic boards that can’t handle the Infinity’s variable-speed logic.
  • Performance Series heat pump defrost sensor drift. After five to seven Chicago winters, the defrost thermistor reads high and the unit ices up instead of cycling properly. We see this in Ravenswood and Portage Park basements where the outdoor coil sits in a wind tunnel between buildings. We replace with the Carrier OEM thermistor, recalibrate the defrost board, and check charge - because a bad defrost cycle usually means the system has been running low on refrigerant for two seasons already.
  • Ductless mini split indoor blower wheel imbalance on Comfort Series units. The plastic blower wheel collects condensation minerals and dust, then wobbles on its shaft. The noise starts as a hum and becomes a rattle. We remove and balance the wheel, or replace if the shaft bearing has worn oval. Aftermarket wheels exist, but the tolerances are wrong and the vibration returns in six months. We use Carrier-specified parts.
  • Multi-zone mini split refrigerant leaks at the flare connections. Carrier’s multi-zone systems run higher pressures than single-zone units. In Chicago’s freeze-thaw cycles, the copper flares work loose. We find these with electronic leak detection, never guesswork, then reflare with a torque wrench to Carrier spec and pressure-test before charging. Adding refrigerant without fixing the flare just buys you another call in eighteen months.
  • Carrier Greenspeed heat pump compressor inverter failure after power events. Chicago’s grid takes hits from summer storms and winter cold-load spikes. The inverter board is sensitive to voltage sag. We test with a power quality meter, replace the inverter and DC choke if needed, and install surge protection that Carrier’s warranty doesn’t require but we recommend anyway. This is not a cheap repair, and we’ll tell you when a new system makes more sense.

Our Carrier Heat Pump & Mini Split Process

  1. 1
You call, we answer. A live person, 24 hours a day. You describe what’s happening. We schedule or dispatch for emergencies.
  2. 2
Diagnostic on arrival. Our technician checks model and serial number, runs the full Carrier diagnostic sequence for your series, and tests pressures, temperatures, and electrical draws against factory spec.
  3. 3
We explain what we found. OEM part or quality aftermarket? We tell you which we’re recommending and why, with prices for both when the aftermarket option exists and won’t void your remaining warranty.
  4. 4
Upfront approval. The price quoted is the price paid. You sign nothing until you agree.
  5. 5
Repair and verification. We complete the work, run the system through a full cycle, check safeties, and document pressures and temperatures.
  6. 6
Written guarantee and cleanup. Every job carries our 90-Day Done Right Promise. Shoe covers come off, floor is swept, and you have our direct line if anything feels off.
